Group Volunteering Abroad

The project

The aim of this work camp is to support a small group of children with disabilities who are receiving treatment at a specialised centre, while also contributing to environmental improvement on the centre’s grounds.

Volunteers will begin each day with practical outdoor tasks such as maintaining the grounds, removing weeds from the playground, painting, cleaning, and assisting with small renovation projects.

After the children complete their daily therapy sessions, volunteers will spend time organising leisure and creative activities including drawing, sculpting, singing, dancing, games, and light physical exercises.

The camp will conclude with a final concert-performance prepared together by volunteers and children. Participants will receive certificates at the end of the project.

Accommodation & food

Volunteers will stay in buildings or cottages provided by the hosting organisation. Beds, mattresses, and bedding will be available, so there is no need to bring a sleeping bag.

Meals will be prepared by volunteers themselves on a rota system. This is a great opportunity to enjoy traditional Armenian cuisine, including dishes such as dolma, khorovats (barbecue), kebab, and khashlama, as well as fresh fruits from the Ararat Valley like apricots, grapes, peaches, and more.

Location & leisure

Armenia is often called an open-air museum, offering a rich cultural and historical experience. Throughout the camp, volunteers will have the chance to take part in excursions to famous landmarks and museums, all free of charge.

Possible visits include Echmiadzin Mother Cathedral, the ruins of Zvartnots Cathedral, Garni Pagan Temple, Geghard Monastery (a UNESCO World Heritage site), and Lake Sevan (including a barbecue on the beach!)..

Volunteers may also explore Yerevan’s cultural highlights such as the Matenadaran manuscript repository, the History Museum of Armenia, the National Gallery, and the Vernissage open-air souvenir market.

In addition, Armenian dance lessons, language sessions, and group games will be organised during leisure time.

Project host

The project is hosted by HUJ, a local Armenian organisation experienced in running international volunteer camps and supporting inclusive community projects.
