Information for Parents and Carers

Apply online, and we'll provide support every step of the way. Start by choosing a project that you wish to apply for.

If you're not sure, we can talk to you to help you search and decide.

Once you've chosen your project, the next step is to apply online, by clicking apply now from our website. There is an application form to complete as well as a payment of £250 to enable us to secure your placement on the volunteering project and organise it with the host charity.

Once the fee is paid you will also get full access to our dedicated team to help prepare you for your trip.

If your application is unsuccessful this fee is fully refundable.

We have projects specifically designed just for 16-18 year olds, prioritising a safe environment to explore the world and make new friends.

The projects last up to 3 weeks so your child can make the most of their time abroad. We provide support throughout including:

• A dedicated in-person support and emergency support from our team available by phone or email.

• Working with two global networks to ensure high safety standards with all our charity hosts across the world.

• Our trips are compliant to the BS8448 standard: Adventurous activities outside the UK

• Extended support for all volunteers before and during their trip

• All leaders are trained to work specifically with youth groups

• Projects starting from £250

• Excursions, cultural activities, and social events

Your child will need to organise their own travel arrangements in terms of visas (if needed), flights and travel insurance.

However our team is here to support you with guidance and support with this, as well as coordinating with the host project to ensure your child is met at the airport and has safe travel arrangements to wherever they will be staying.

Each project will have a description and details about the accommodation that is provided so you can get a sense of whether it is right for your child.

Most projects have shared accommodation so your child will be sharing a room with 1 or more other volunteers on the project. You will also have information about how food is provided or whether your child will need to shop and cook food.

Most volunteers take their own phone to stay in touch with family back home.

Wifi access will vary depending on location and the project, so if you'd like further details please get in touch and we can check with the particular project that your child is interested in.

Your child will be on the project with other volunteers similar in age and it's a great chance to make new friendships.

All leaders of the projects have specific training to work with youth groups and there will be other staff supporting the project too.

If you want details of the number of staff involved for any particular projects please get in touch and we can contact the host organisation for more information on your behalf.

If your child is worried about something, they can speak to their project leaders who all have specific training working with youth groups.

They can also contact our dedicated support whilst they are away, via email or phone if they prefer that option. The vast majority of projects run smoothly without any issues or concerns, but we are on-hand to provide support whenever needed.

Our extensive experience of working with young people means we are confident in our ability to help and the wellbeing of everyone who takes part in a Concordia volunteering experience is the highest of our priorities.
