The project
This project supports the protection of natural and cultural heritage in the counties of Pallars Jussà and Pallars Sobirà through practical conservation tasks and close collaboration with local communities.
The work is outdoors and mainly involves the recovery and cleaning of dry-stone structures, historic pathways, and heritage sites in three rural municipalities. Some local workers will support the group, and volunteers will begin work early in the morning to avoid the midday heat.
Tasks include:
In Talarn:
Restoring dry-stone walls along local roads
Clearing and cleaning heritage footpaths
In Baix Pallars (mining and salt heritage):
Rebuilding dry-stone walls at historical salt complexes
Cleaning drainage systems and the area around old salt mines
In Gavet (archaeological heritage):
Clearing vegetation from excavated areas
Supporting archaeologists with stone and earth removal
Working hours: Monday to Friday, 07:30–12:00. Afternoons are free for rest, cultural visits, and group activities. No prior experience is needed — training and tools are provided.
Accommodation & food
Volunteers will stay at Alberg de Talarn, a youth hostel with shared dorm-style accommodation. There are 12 bunk beds in one room, with shelves for personal items. The rooms can get very hot during the summer, volunteers should be prepared for high temperatures. Bathrooms are shared (no gender separation), with hot water and private showers. Wi-Fi and electricity are available. No laundry facilities, but hand-washing is possible
Meals:
A catering company provides lunch and dinner
Volunteers prepare their own breakfast
Snacks are available during work breaks
Please include any dietary requirements or allergies in your application form.
