The project

The Rochefort-en-Yvelines castle, "Château Gui Le Rouge", has been a historic monument since 1931 and was once a strategic fortress. For the last four years, volunteers from around the world have worked to clear the ruins and open new access paths to help the village reclaim its historic view.

Your tasks will include:

  • Clearing invasive vegetation

  • Cleaning the stone walls to reveal the castle’s past

  • Creating paths to enhance the viewpoints

  • Working alongside a technical supervisor for guidance at every step

No prior skills are needed, just your motivation and desire to be part of this collective adventure!

Accommodation & food

You will be accommodated at the village hall, located just ten minutes on foot from the worksite, within a small leisure area. The site offers outdoor spaces with a barbecue and sports fields (volleyball, basketball, football). You can either sleep indoors in the hall or camp in individual tents.

In addition to work, you will be involved in the camp's daily life. Volunteers plan menus, shop, prepare meals, and help keep shared spaces clean. You will also take part in shaping group activities and organising the daily routines.

Location & leisure

Rochefort-en-Yvelines is a charming medieval village, located just 30 minutes from Paris. It offers a perfect blend of natural beauty and historical landmarks, including the Dourdan medieval castle, Elsa Triolet-Aragon house, Rambouillet forest, Vaux de Cernay Abbey, and the lively city of Paris.

Project host

This project is hosted by the Rochefort-en-Yvelines town hall and the Historical Society, who have been welcoming international volunteers for several years. The association’s volunteers also help with tours of the village’s iconic sites.
