The project
Take part in a unique eco-construction experience and help build a new yurt – a traditional round tent – as part of a long-term community project just south of Paris. You’ll work with other young people to support the development of a sustainable eco-village, contributing directly to a greener future.
Your main tasks will include:
Building a wooden table using tree trunks from the local forest
Constructing an outdoor solar-powered shower
Creating a small wooden hut to be used in the project’s educational garden
All activities will be supported by the local team, who will guide you through each task and share eco-construction techniques. This is hands-on, outdoor work where your contribution will leave a lasting impact.
Accommodation & food
You’ll stay on the association’s campsite, sleeping in shared yurts. The site has separate bathrooms, showers, and a kitchen area. You’ll be living simply, close to nature, with basic but comfortable facilities.
Bring a sleeping bag and be ready to share space with your fellow volunteers – this is all part of the experience! Meals are provided, and you’ll take turns preparing food as a team.
Location & leisure
The project takes place in La Ferté-Alais, about 50km south of Paris, in the beautiful Essonne region. It’s surrounded by nature and part of a regional park. You’ll have time to explore the local area, help organise social activities with local young people, and enjoy time together as a group.
Leisure time will be shaped by the group’s ideas and budget – and a day trip to Paris is included!
Project host
The project is hosted by Vir’Volt, short for Village International de Volontariat. For over 10 years, Vir’Volt has welcomed young people from around the world to build an eco-village rooted in solidarity, sustainability, and cultural exchange.
Their site is completely off-grid, featuring yurts and teepees for accommodation, permaculture gardens, water-saving systems, and a commitment to low-waste living. Volunteers come together each year to learn, connect, and leave a positive impact – on the land, the people, and themselves.
