The project
Get ready for two weeks packed with fun, learning, and connection. You’ll be supporting kids in Marangu during their Christmas holidays, not stuck in classrooms, but joining in activities that make learning exciting:
Games: From football to local Tanzanian games to new ones you bring from home, you’ll be right in the middle of the action.
Nature time: Go birdwatching, plant trees, and explore the plants, animals, and insects around the village.
Christmas Festivities: Help organise sports, games, and competitions, and see kids light up when they take part.
Academic support: Give a hand with holiday homework and creative competitions to boost confidence for the next school year.
This project is all about fun first, but you’ll also be building your own skills while giving kids the chance to learn, play, and grow in a safe space.
Accommodation & food
You’ll live in a community house with the other volunteers, where you can expect to share rooms, cook together, and eat tasty local meals, suitable for meat eaters or vegetarians.
Location & leisure
Marangu sits at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro. Yes, Africa’s tallest mountain. It’s a vibrant farming village with banana and coffee plantations, criss-crossed by streams (that’s what “Marangu” means!). You’ll meet the Chagga people, explore local culture, and when you’re not volunteering, you can:
Head off on safari to Serengeti, Tarangire, Lake Manyara or Ngorongoro Crater 🦁
Try eco and cultural tours
Or even take on a Kilimanjaro climb if you’re feeling bold
Project host
The project “Child space- Children Christmas camp” is an annual initiative aiming to provide a safer space for children to utilise their school holidays during the end of the year in a more constructive way. School holidays; (breaks) do not mean break from activities, and engaging children in fun activities. This project is organised in cooperation with the local community for some time now whereby for two weeks children and volunteers from all over the world are expected to engage in different sports and games, exploring nature, playing and learning in classes. In this way, the children can improve their skills even during Christmas holidays and make up for any deficits in education with extra tuition, but also have fun with their friends.
