The project

This camp focuses on traditional food production and agricultural support. Volunteers will actively participate in daily village life and seasonal production activities:

  • Harvesting vegetables directly from the fields

  • Collecting pine cones and seasonal agricultural products

  • Supporting the preparation of traditional foods such as; tomato paste (salça), bread, pestil (dried fruit sheets), dried fruits and vegetables, noodles etc.

  • Assisting in kitchen organization and preparation processes

  • Supporting packaging and preparation of products when needed

The work is hands-on and practical. Some tasks may require working outdoors under the sun, while others will take place indoors in production areas. Volunteers should be open to learning traditional methods and working closely with local women.

Working hours will be approximately 5–6 hours per day.

Accommodation & food

Accommodation will be in village houses. Female and male volunteers will stay in separate rooms. Three meals per day will be provided by local people. Meals will mainly consist of traditional regional cuisine prepared by the cooperative members and families in the village. Accommodation conditions will be simple but comfortable, offering an authentic village experience and close interaction with the local community.

Location & leisure

The camp will take place in Fındık Village, in the Göksun district of Kahramanmaraş. The region is known for its natural beauty. During free time, volunteers may:

  • Visit nearby highland areas

  • Explore Göksun and surrounding nature

  • Join local visits such as going to taste the famous local ice cream

  • Participate in meetings and small events organized with municipality or district authorities

Project host

This workcamp is organized in cooperation with S.S. Adatepe Kadın Girişimi Üretim ve İşletme Kooperatifi, a women-led social cooperative founded in 2024 in Fındık Village, Göksun district of Kahramanmaraş.

The cooperative was established by local women who aim to preserve regional food traditions while creating economic opportunities within the village. By producing and selling traditional products such as tomato paste, dried fruits, pestil, bread, and other local specialties, they generate income that is reinvested into improving village life.

Despite many challenges, this dedicated group of women continues working to beautify and strengthen their village. The products they prepare are sold at New Year markets and through online platforms, and the income supports local development efforts.

Through this camp, volunteers will directly support this inspiring grassroots initiative and become part of a meaningful rural solidarity experience.
