The project
This medieval fortress has lived for many years, even centuries, and needs a new lease of life! This is why we invite you to discover the techniques of traditional lime masonry and to restore the walls and ramparts of the castle!
Have you ever done masonry? It does not matter, it is precisely the opportunity to learn: a professional mason specialized in heritage will accompany you throughout the project!
The bonus this year is that the Château de Jaulny will open its doors to hundreds of visitors for European Heritage Days! If you wish, you can participate in the preparation and animation of this day of festivities (visits to the castle, medieval reconstructions, street arts, music and costumes from the Middle Ages, games, etc.)
Accommodation & food
As you can see in the photos, you will be accommodated directly in the castle, like the lords of the time! A large dormitory and a bathroom have been set up in the castle and will be reserved for you. You will also have access to a kitchen and different living areas, inside and outside the castle.
The volunteers, who will be actors and actresses of their stay, will each participate in the daily tasks (shopping, cooking, storage and cleaning ...), the organization of the rotation will be done with the animation team, which is there to ensure the smooth running. The objective is to gain autonomy and that everyone acts individually to allow a good collective functioning.
All together, you will think about how to work, eat, have fun, get around, visit the region in the most respectful way for the environment and for each other.
Location & leisure
Jaulny Castle is located in the heart of a small Lorraine village of 200 inhabitants, who will be delighted to welcome you and introduce you to the region. Only a few kilometers away is the Lac de Madine, where swimming, water sports and outdoor sports are possible all summer long. If you like city tourism, you can discover Pont-Ã -Mousson, Nancy and Metz, three cities you absolutely must visit! Finally, for history buffs, the region was strongly marked by the two world wars. There are many monuments, historical sites, museums...
Project host
If you love the Middle Ages, this project is for you!
Jaulny Castle is a wonderful little medieval castle from the 14th century: perched on impressive ramparts, it still stands! According to some stories, Joan of Arc, a great French heroine, lived there... For several years, its owner and dozens of volunteers from the village have been working to restore this castle. The objective is to make it live, and to open it to as many people as possible: visitors, school groups, cultural and festive events...
For two years, the castle hosts in great pomp International workcamps and offers a very unique experience. This year, we're counting on you!
