The project
As a volunteer at the Aalborg City Cup, you will play an essential role in making one of Northern Europe’s largest youth football tournaments a success. Each year, around 300 teams and 8,000–10,000 visitors come from across Europe to participate in and watch the games. To ensure the event runs smoothly, volunteers will help in various areas, including event setup, food service, information support, and venue maintenance. Your tasks will change throughout the day, keeping things dynamic and engaging! On the first day, you’ll sit down with the host to create a work plan and choose the assignments that interest you most—so be sure to read about the different tasks in advance. That way, you can hit the ground running and make the most of your experience!
Accommodation & food
Sleeping + bathroom facilities:
The exact accommodation is not yet confirmed, but volunteers will either stay at a local school or a community house. If the group stays at a local school, the host will provide mattresses and sleeping bags, and there will be access to a bath and toilet. If the group stays at a community house, the host will also provide mattresses and sleeping bags. The bath and toilet will be located just across the street, and there will be a kitchen available for making snacks.
Meals + kitchen facilities:
All meals will be provided through a small token system, which can be used at food trucks. In some cases, meals will be shared with other staff, creating a great opportunity to connect over food.
Location & leisure
Aalborg is Denmark’s fourth-largest city, known for its vibrant cultural scene, rich history, and beautiful waterfront along the Limfjord. The city offers a mix of modern attractions and historical landmarks, such as:
Aalborg Tower – A panoramic view of the city
Utzon Centre – Designed by the architect of the Sydney Opera House
Aalborg Zoo – A popular spot for visitors
Jomfru Ane Gade – Denmark’s longest bar street, famous for nightlife
Aalborg is also home to various parks, museums, and a lively student community, making it a great place to explore during leisure time. Since the camp is short, there won’t be a full free day off, but there will be some free time to relax and enjoy the experience. Volunteers are expected to work a minimum of six hours per day, ensuring that we make the most of our time together while still having moments to unwind.

ActionAid Denmark is a movement that fights for a more just and sustainable world. A world without discrimination, climate crises and poverty. We do this in Denmark - and in more than 45 countries around the world.
We work for democracy and influence for vulnerable and underserved people deprived of their rights. We support young people in fighting for their rights. With a strong voice, young people all over the globe can help change the world and build democratic, sustainable societies.
We support young people in developing their voice, and we stand behind them to increase pressure on those in power to create a more just and sustainable world.
The core of our work is cooperation and development work, as well as humanitarian efforts when disaster and crisis strike. We are part of the international association ActionAid, which gives us access to more than 45 countries and direct contact with more than 25 million of the world’s poorest people.
We have been active in the field since 1944, and we continue, stronger than ever.
