The Student Worker Education Programme (SWEP)

This course is designed to broaden a student’s farming knowledge. With plenty of classroom and seminar work, they’ll learn the theory behind the practice. The course is ideal for seasonal employees as it allows them to train-on-the-job using a training package that complements the work they’re doing. If you’re a grower who’s spotted some potential in an employee and shares our enthusiasm in nurturing them, then SWEP is a great way to develop an employee’s skills.

Returning workers in particular may benefit from this very flexible course. Split into two parts, the first is usually completed over 7 months and covers everything from fruit picking, health and safety to the environment. We will tailor this to the needs of both the student and the grower. Part two is an ongoing assessment and requires students to keep a portfolio of work building towards a City & Guilds qualification.

There are two one day seminars on Environmental Awareness and Knowledge and Understanding of the UK Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Industry. Students are given an exam on topics covered by the seminar.
