Musical Director - Ian Assersohn
Ian Assersohn is a composer, conductor, teacher and accompanist who lives in Great Bookham, Surrey with his wife Jan and their family.
He went to Westminster School and the Royal College of Music in London where he studied composition, piano, conducting and bassoon. After the RCM, he spent a year on a Netherlands Government Scholarship at the Koningklijk Conservatorium in Den Haag where he studied composition with Louis Andriessen and Peter Schat.
His first professional work as a composer was writing music for commercials and TV programmes and incidental music for the theatre. Recently he has concentrated on choral music: his most recent large-scale project is The Song of Songs - a 40-minute setting of the Old Testament book for Soprano and tenor soli, choir and instrumental ensemble.
Apart from Concordia he is Musical Director of Leatherhead Choral Society, (since 2001), and Leatherhead Orchestra (since 2009) and he has appeared as guest conductor with many other groups.
Ian has also written a book "First Time Bars" which is available to buy from Amazon and other internet bookshops. This is a handbook specially designed to help choral singers who want to improve their knowledge of music theory and choral repertoire.
